Awards Rationale
The Ghana Fitness, Wellness and Nutrition Awards aim to create awareness of the need for prudent physical fitness and wellness practices in Ghana and the need to patronage the products and services on offer towards achieving this. It also seeks to promote the adherence to healthy nutritional habits and practices.
This is part of the wider effort to promote proactive preventive health in Ghana rather than reactive curative health. This is crucial because Ghana lacks the healthcare resources, both human and material to effectively cope with curative health requirements, even at their current levels. The ongoing out break of the COVID 19 pandemic illustrates the fragility of Ghana’s medical response capacities vividly.
Unfortunately, this situation and the yet unexploited opportunity to use preventive health as an entirely feasible, and far more pragmatic alternative to grossly inadequate curative health capacities are not widely understood and appreciated in Ghana, even among civil society leaders who have the requisite societal influence to change thinking, habits and practices among the citizenry.
